Make a blanket for Nepal victims

The Sun have launched our charity campaign and appeal to you, our army of wonderful Sun readers, to pick up your knitting needles for needy kids and their families.

To celebrate Princess Charlotte’s arrival you can download The Sun’s free knitting patterns and make mittens, a hat or a scarf for babies in Nepal and worldwide.

The Sun has teamed up with knitting charity, Loving Hands, to help you do this.

But it is not just clothes families need — they require blankets such as the one made and sent out to those in need in Nepal, above.

One charity that Loving Hands works with is Operation Orphan. The UK-based organisation has been on the ground in Nepal since last month’s earthquake, which killed more than 8,000 and left thousands of people homeless.

But the United Nations reports it has received only a small fraction of the aid required to help these people. Brad Moore, from Operation Orphan, has seen first-hand the desperation of thousands in the quake-hit areas.

Loving Hands helped us prepare 200 food parcels, knitted blankets, hats and gloves before we left and we had the privilege of distributing these to hundreds of families. This is the first aid any of them have received since the earthquake. The police told us the crowds were looting aid vehicles where we were heading. Everywhere you look houses have been damaged or destroyed, food, clothes and belongings trapped in the rubble.

£50m aid for Nepal

BRITS’ donations to an appeal to help victims of the Nepalese earthquake have reached £50million. The quake reduced villages to rubble when it hit on April 25 and has killed more than 8,000.

The Disasters Emergency Committee said: “The generosity of the UK public will help families rebuild their lives.”
