Our mission at The News Academy is to invest in the future of journalism, to help and inspire the next generation of those who might one day work in our industry. The News Academy works with 18 to 25 year olds who are passionate about becoming the next generation of journalists.

  • In 2016 The News Academy held its third annual summer school, launched the News UK Video Academy and began the search for three Sun Apprentices.
  • The News Academy offers free masterclasses throughout the year to aspiring journalists. Our editors and journalists across the titles give up their time and their wealth of experience to equip the next generation with the know-how to succeed.
  • In Summer 2017 the News Academy is hosting its first Digital Academy to find young technologists for News UK (with an aim of getting 50% females and addressing the coding gender imbalance) complementing our work finding budding young journalists for our titles.
  • We are also hosting our first Wireless Radio Academy with our colleagues at talkRADIO, talkSPORT, talkSPORT2 and Virgin Radio – more to come!
  • We have placed two young journalists a week across The Times, The Sun and The Sunday Times work experience and internship programmes from a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience.
